Over 75 years ago, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission became America’s first super highway. Our Mission today is to operate a safe, reliable, customer-valued toll road system that supports national mobility and commerce.
Making our Mission a reality, the PTC has adopted significant levels of Capital Plan Investment – $5.62 Billion over ten years!
This investment has enabled the completion of over 120 miles of total reconstruction of our system to date and we anticipate the completion of over 140 miles of additional total reconstruction projects within the next decade. The direct impact to our customers will be a better ride and better mobility.
Many of the sections of our system that have been reconstructed have also been widened from 4 to 6 lanes. This widening will enable future maintenance to occur with minimal disruption, providing the uninterrupted travel experience our customers deserve.
This significant level of investment is also providing an enormous positive economic impact for Pennsylvania. Over the five year period from 2012 through 2016, approximately 32,000 jobs will be created, generating over $5.3 Billion in economic output over those 5 years.
Customer service, a core value for the PTC, means that we will maintain the highest level of quality service with a focus on safety, dependability, and mobility. Through our Capital Plan Investment, we aim to build "The bridge to zero fatalities."
