Special Hauling Permits for over-dimensional /overweight travel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike are available up to 2 weeks in advance of the travel date. Permits are issued based on the vehicles’ ability to make the trip safely, however the guidance in the permits may be supplemented or changed by the PA Turnpike Commission staff at any time.
Vehicle operators, Turnpike personnel, and enforcement staff are encouraged to use HAUL MONITOR™ to confirm the status of a permit on the day of travel. The PA Turnpike is piloting HAUL MONITOR™, an automated system that will provide permit status for travel today and key permit details. For each permit, HAUL MONITOR™ informs the user of the dates for authorized travel, route, weight, height, and number of axles, and special ad-hoc restrictions. HAUL MONITOR™ is accessible by SMS text or by phone call.
