What is Act 165 of 2016?
Act 165 is a PA law enacted in the fall of 2016 that provides tolling agencies in the Commonwealth of PA stronger enforcement tools to ensure all motorists who use a tolled facility pay their toll.
How does it work?
Act 165 allows the PA Turnpike Commission to request that PennDOT suspend the vehicle registration of any PA motorist whose vehicle has six or more unpaid PA Turnpike toll violations or who owe $500 or more to the PA Turnpike in tolls and fees.
When does the law take effect?
Act 165 is effective as of Aug. 4, 2017; after that, the PA Turnpike can request PennDOT suspend vehicle registrations meeting the criteria of six or more unpaid PA Turnpike toll violations or owe $500 or more in unpaid tolls and fees.
How do I know if I have unpaid PA Turnpike toll bills or violations?
To look up your registration, go to https://www.ezpass.csc.paturnpike.com/tollbyplate/forms/Unpaid/Unpaid.aspx. Then simply enter the information requested to determine if there are unpaid violations or tolls associated with your registered vehicle.
What if I have an unpaid balance with the PA Turnpike?
The unpaid balance lookup will direct you to call 1-877-PENNPASS (1-877-736-6727) and select Option 2 to resolve the amounts owed. There will likely be significant call volumes as thousands of PA drivers call to settle their debts. The PA Turnpike’s Customer Service Center is open Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I keep calling but cannot get through!
It is possible there will be times when callers will wait in queue or may not be able to get through on the first try, especially if they call Mondays and Tuesdays, which are high-volume days. Callers in queue can request a call back or leave a voicemail message. They will receive a return call within 24 to 48 hours.
How can I make a payment?
The PA Turnpike Customer Service Center accepts payments via check, credit card and money order. Cash payments can only be accepted in person at the Customer Service Center located at 300 East Park Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
What if I received a letter saying I have a pending suspension?
You should immediately call 1-877-PENNPASS (1-877-736-6727) and select Option 2 to resolve the amounts owed. Inaction could result in your vehicle registration being suspended.
PennDOT suspended my registration, what does that mean?
When a vehicle registration is suspended, you no longer have the privilege of operating the vehicle on the road until the registration is valid.
How do I reactivate my registration?
Once the vehicle owner has settled unpaid toll violations and invoices and paid the restoration fee, PennDOT will be notified. PennDOT will then notify the vehicle owner that the suspension has been removed and the registration has been reinstated.
