PA Turnpike Closure Overnight Between Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley Interchanges

Five-hour, westbound-only closure needed August 9 for bridge beam erection.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling westbound that the PA Turnpike will be closed between Pittsburgh, Exit #57, and Allegheny Valley, Exit #48, interchanges starting at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 8 through 5 a.m. on Aug. 9, weather permitting.

This five-hour, westbound-only closure is needed so crews can safely erect bridge beams for a new bridge that will replace Unity Trestle Road Bridge, which carries traffic over the Turnpike at milepost 52.36 in Plum Borough, Allegheny County.

Motorists traveling eastbound in this area will be restricted to a single lane during the closure.

Westbound drivers should use the following suggested detour:

Exit at Pittsburgh Interchange:

Take I-376 west (16 miles) to

I-279 north (Fort Duquesne Bridge), bear right on bridge (I-279 north) to

State Route 28 north (23 miles) to

Harmarville Exit, State Route 910 east (.1 mile) then

Left onto Freeport Road (.7 mile) to

Re-enter the Pa Turnpike at the Allegheny Valley Interchange

Follow signs to Ohio and West

During the closure, expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure.
