Delays Possible at PA Turnpike’s Kittatinny/Blue Mountain Tunnels
Lane restrictions needed for tunnel inspection and maintenance starting Aug 3.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is alerting motorists approaching the Kittatinny and Blue Mountain tunnels of traffic restrictions throughout August. The tunnels are located in Franklin County between the Blue Mountain Interchange, Exit #201, and Willow Hill Interchange, Exit #189.

Starting Aug. 3 until Aug. 11, the eastbound tunnels will be closed between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday requiring all traffic to travel through the westbound tunnel. A crossover pattern will be in place to divert traffic into the westbound tunnels. Both tunnels will be open Friday through Sunday.

Beginning Aug. 12 until Aug. 20, the westbound tunnels will be closed between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday requiring all traffic to travel through the eastbound tunnels. A crossover pattern will be in place to divert traffic into the eastbound tunnels.

Commercial restrictions for over-width and over-length vehicles will be in place during these times.

The tunnel closures are needed for bi-annual highway inspection and maintenance of the roadway and tunnel. Motorists should obey the posted speed limit when entering the work zone. This work will proceed as weather permits.
