PA Turnpike Closure Overnight Between Allegheny Valley and Pittsburgh Interchanges
Five-hour, eastbound-only closure needed August 1 for bridge beam erection.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling eastbound that the PA Turnpike will be closed between Allegheny Valley, Exit #48, and Pittsburgh, Exit#57, interchanges starting at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 1 through 5 a.m. on Aug. 2, weather permitting.

This five-hour, eastbound-only closure is needed so crews can safely erect bridge beams for a new bridge that will replace Unity Trestle Road Bridge, which carries traffic over the Turnpike at milepost 52.36 in Plum Borough, Allegheny County.

Eastbound drivers should use the following suggested detour:

Exit at Allegheny Interchange

Take Freeport Road (1 mile) to

State Route 910 west (.5 mile) to

State Route 28 south (12 miles) to

I-579 south Veterans Bridge (.5 mile) to

I-376 east (14.2 miles) to Exit 15

Reenter I-76 at Pittsburgh Interchange

Follow signs to Harrisburg and east.

During the closure, expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure.

Throughout the evening prior to the closure, information will be posted at the Oakmont/Plum Service Plaza to warn customers that they will not be permitted to continue driving after 11 p.m. on Aug. 1.
