Weekend Closure and Detours Slated Again for Dauphin and Lebanon Counties
Nineteen-mile closure needed for bridge beam setting operations for Rt. 283 over I-76.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) remind motorists traveling the PA Turnpike (I-76) this weekend, both eastbound and westbound in Dauphin and Lebanon counties, that detours will be in effect between Exit 247 (Harrisburg East) and Exit 266 (Lebanon-Lancaster). The closures will occur from 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 to 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug.25.

The weekend detours are needed to safely remove and replace the bridge beams at milepost 251. This is the second successive, weekend closure at these locations for work being done as part of PennDOT’s Route 283 project.

Throughout Saturday evening, announcements will be made inside the PA Turnpike service plazas to alert both east and westbound customers that they will not be able to exit at those interchanges after 11:30 p.m. Message boards will also be activated to alert motorists of any delays.

Detours are as follows:

  • Travelers heading east should take Exit 247 (Harrisburg East) to I-283 North to U.S. 322 East to Route 72 South to return to Turnpike at Exit 266 (Lebanon-Lancaster).
  • Travelers heading west should take Exit 266 (Lebanon-Lancaster) to Route 72 North to U.S. 322 West to I-283 South to return to Turnpike at Exit 247 (Harrisburg East).

Last weekend’s closure at these locations concluded almost three hours ahead of schedule. Motorists are advised to check one of these resources to keep apprised of all PA Turnpike road conditions and traffic alerts:
