New Traffic Patterns Planned on I-79 in Allegheny and Washington Counties
Rest area to also close as part of PA Turnpike’s Southern Beltway Construction.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wants to alert motorists that a traffic shift on I-79 in South Fayette Township, Allegheny County and Cecil Township, Washington County will occur overnight July 15.

Crews will begin the traffic shift starting around 8 p.m. on July 15 and will be finished setting the pattern by 6 a.m. on July 16.  Traffic traveling southbound on I-79 will use a temporary crossover just south of Alpine Road and then travel on two, 12-foot lanes on the northbound side of the median.  Traffic will then use a temporary crossover south of Morgan Road to return to the southbound side of I-79.

While this traffic pattern is in effect, the southbound rest area near mile marker 50 on I-79 in South Fayette Township will be closed. Crews will start to clear the rest area the morning of  July 15 with all vehicles to be gone by 10 p.m. that night.

This traffic alignment will remain in place until the spring of 2020 with the rest area being closed for the duration.  Speeds are posted at 45 MPH throughout the work zone and are strictly enforced.

This traffic impact is needed to keep motorists and workers safe as work continues on the Southern Beltway’s 55C2-1 construction section. For more information about the project, please visit: https://www.patpconstruction.com/southern_beltway/22to79/.
