Section of Trafford/Murrysville Roads in Westmoreland County to Close July 5
Three-month closure needed for Turnpike work in Penn Township.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that a section of Trafford Road/Murrysville Road (State Route 4033) in Penn Township, Westmoreland County will close to traffic beginning July 5.  The road will be closed where it crosses over the Turnpike at milepost 59.6 and will reopen in approximately three months.

The closure is needed to re-align and construct the roadway to connect with the new overhead bridge carrying Trafford Road/Murrysville Road over the Turnpike.

The approximate 10-mile detour suggested for motorists is:

Northbound Traffic:    Trafford Road (1.5 miles) to Pleasant Valley Road (4.5 miles) to State Route 130 west (3.1 miles), back to Murrysville Road

Southbound Traffic:    Murrysville Road (1.5 miles) to State Route 130 east (3.1 miles) to Pleasant Valley Road (4.5 miles), back to Trafford Road.

Signage will be posted along the detour route during the closure. This work is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

The contractor, Beech Construction of Carnegie, was awarded the $10 million contract in Nov. 2017. The entire scope of work includes replacing the Lyons Run Road and Trafford/Murrysville Road bridges in addition to a box culvert. Two access ramps will also be constructed, along with shoulder widening and mainline median work.

This early-action work and bridge replacement is a part of the future Total Reconstruction and Widening Project of the PA Turnpike between mileposts 57 and 67 scheduled to begin in 2023. For more information on this project visit  https://www.patpconstruction.com/mp57to67/ .
