PA Turnpike to Close May 20 Between Pittsburgh and Irwin Interchanges
Five-hour, overnight eastbound closure needed for bridge work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the PA Turnpike will be closed between the Pittsburgh (#57) and Irwin (#67) interchanges eastbound only starting at midnight on May 20 until approximately 5 a.m., weather permitting. This five-hour closure is needed for crews to safely erect bridge beams for a replacement bridge that will carry Trafford-Murrysville Road over the Turnpike at milepost 59.6.

The recommended detour for eastbound traffic exiting at Pittsburgh (#57) is:

U.S. Route 22 east (10.5 miles) to

Turnpike 66 south (7 miles) to

U.S. Route 30 west (4.6 miles)

Reenter the PA Turnpike at the Irwin Interchange (#67) and follow signs to Harrisburg and east.

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the Pittsburgh Interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure.

This early-action bridge work is a part of the future Total Reconstruction and Widening of the Turnpike between mileposts 57 and 67 scheduled to start in 2023. For more information on this project visit  https://www.patpconstruction.com/mp57to67/ .
