PA Turnpike to Close May 6 Between Irwin and Pittsburgh Interchanges
Five-hour, overnight westbound closure needed for bridge work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the PA Turnpike will be closed between the Irwin (#67) and the Pittsburgh (#57) interchanges westbound only starting at midnight on May 6 until approximately 5 a.m., weather permitting. This five-hour closure is needed for crews to safely erect bridge beams for a replacement bridge that will carry Trafford-Murrysville Road over the Turnpike at milepost 59.6.

The recommended detour for westbound traffic exiting at Irwin (#67) is:

U.S. Route 30 east (4.6 miles) to

Turnpike 66 north (7 miles) to

U.S. Route 22 west (10.5 miles)

Reenter the PA Turnpike at the Pittsburgh Interchange (#57) and follow signs to Ohio and west

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the Irwin Interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure.

This early-action bridge work is a part of the future Total Reconstruction and Widening of the Turnpike between mileposts 57 and 67 scheduled to start in 2023. For more information on this project visit  https://www.patpconstruction.com/mp57to67/ .
