PA Turnpike Advises Motorists of Possible Delays between Wyoming Valley and Keyser Avenue
Traffic paces planned Sept. 21 for bridge beam erection.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists travelling the Northeastern Extension (I-476) between the Wyoming Valley Interchange, Exit 115, and the Keyser Avenue Interchange, Exit 122, to expect possible delays due to intermittent traffic paces Sept. 21 from 12:01 to 6:00 a.m.

The paces are necessary for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely erect four bridge beams.  The bridge, which carries Main Street over the Turnpike, crosses I-476 at milepost A120.68 in Lackawanna County.  During the five, 30-minute paces, state police vehicles will restrict Turnpike traffic to a speed of 20-25 miles an hour allowing the contractor to erect the bridge beams.

Single lane closures and traffic stoppages will occur Sept. 20 starting at 7 a.m. to prepare for the night-time traffic paces.

Motorists in the area should be prepared for slow-moving traffic and possible stoppages. The Turnpike conducts pacing maneuvers in certain construction situations as an alternative to full roadway closures and detours.  Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.

The PA Turnpike is in the process of decommissioning and removing all call boxes from the roadway due to a significant decline in use over recent years. Modern means like smart phones, make it safer for our motorists to communicate incidents safely from inside their vehicle.  To report an accident or other emergencies on the PA Turnpike, stay in your car and dial *11 on your mobile phone.
