PA Turnpike to Host Jan. 19 Open House in Towamencin Township
Forum will provide update on Northeastern Extension widening project between mileposts A26-A31.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) will hold an Open House on Jan. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Towamencin Mennonite Church, 1980 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville, PA regarding the total reconstruction and widening project on the Northeastern Extension (Interstate I-476) between mileposts A26-A31.

The two-hour open house will provide property owners living adjacent to the six-lane widening project from Berks Road to north of the Lansdale Interchange (Exit 31) an opportunity to view informational displays and to meet with Turnpike officials and other project team members involved with the $198 million project.

Additional project details will be available at the meeting, which the public is encouraged to attend.  Residents may contact Kathleen Walter at the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 610-313-6383 for more information.  The meeting facility is ADA accessible; however, requests for specific needs or accommodations to facilitate public participation should be directed to Kathleen Walter.

The overall project includes the full-depth reconstruction of 10.5 miles of the Northeastern Extension - from the Mid-County Interchange to the Lansdale Interchange, Montgomery County. Construction on this section began in 2014, and upon completion, anticipated this spring, the existing four-lane facility with a four-foot median and eight to 10-foot shoulders will be converted into a six-lane facility with three 12-foot travel lanes north and southbound, a 26-foot median, and 12-foot shoulders.

This project is constructed in two parts: the southern section, which includes the area between the Mid-County Interchange (milepost A20) and Berks Road (milepost A26) in Plymouth, Whitpain and Worcester Townships; and the northern section, which includes the area between Berks Road (milepost A26) and the Lansdale Interchange (milepost A31) in Worcester, Upper Gwynedd and Towamencin Townships.
