E-ZPass Only Ramps to Open at Lansdale Interchange on Northeastern Extension
Northbound exit ramp opens Dec. 4; southbound entry ramp opens Dec. 11.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike announced it will open two E-ZPass Only ramps at the Lansdale Interchange, Exit 31, on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County. A northbound E-ZPass Only exit ramp will open Dec. 4 at 7 a.m.; a southbound E-ZPass Only entry ramp will open Dec. 11 at 7 a.m.

The electronic ramps — for use by E-ZPass customers only — will improve traffic flow on the Northeastern Extension and ease daily backlogs and delays at the Lansdale Interchange and on Sumneytown Pike (State Route 63).

The northbound E-ZPass Only exit ramp opening this weekend is about a quarter mile before the Lansdale Interchange. It will allow exiting E-ZPass motorists to avoid the Lansdale toll plaza and connect directly to Sumneytown Pike.

The northbound E-ZPass exit ramp will be designated as Exit 31A; the existing northbound exit ramp at Lansdale will become Exit 31B. Those who pay by cash must use Exit 31B to avoid receiving a violation.

The southbound E-ZPass Only entry ramp at Lansdale will open on Dec. 11 at 7 a.m., allowing E-ZPass motorists to get on I-476 heading southbound directly from Sumneytown Pike — at the intersection of Old Forty Foot Road — without passing through the toll plaza.

Turnpike travelers must have an active E-ZPass account and a properly mounted transponder to use the new ramps. If a non-E-ZPass motorist tries to exit, an image of the license plate will be captured, and the Commission will mail a violation to the registered owner. If a non-E-ZPass motorist attempts to enter, they will be charged the toll from the furthest point of entry at exit because they have no toll ticket to surrender to the collector.               

The new ramps are part of the total reconstruction and widening of the Northeastern Extension between mileposts 26-31.
