Eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike to Close Between Harrisburg, Lebanon-Lancaster
Six-hour weekend closure needed for bridge beam installation.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling eastbound that the Turnpike (Interstate 76) will be closed between the Harrisburg East Interchange, Exit #247, and Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange, Exit #266, beginning June 19 at 11 p.m. and reopening June 20 about 5 a.m.

The eastbound closure is needed for crews to safely install steel girders for the new structure that will replace the bridge over Swatara Creek at milepost 251 in Dauphin County. Overnight closures will take place over the next two weekends, weather permitting, as beam installation continues.

The recommended eastbound detour is:

  • Exit at Harrisburg East Interchange

  • Take I-283 north to U.S. Route 322 east to State Route 72 south

  • Reenter the Turnpike at the Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange.

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting motorists at the Harrisburg East Interchange during the closure. Motorists should expect higher traffic on detour roads during this time.

The Highspire Service Plaza at milepost 250, which serves eastbound travelers, will remain open during the closure; however, travelers remaining in the plaza after 10:30 p.m. on June 19 will not be able to leave until work is completed around 5 a.m. the next morning.
