Pa. Turnpike to Close Overnight April 24 between Quakertown and Lehigh Valley
Six-hour closure needed for temporary bridge removal.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that a 12-mile stretch of the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed in both directions for six hours on April 24 between Quakertown, Exit 44, and Lehigh Valley, Exit 56. The closure is necessary to protect motorists and workers as crews remove a temporary bridge at the Allentown Service Plaza, milepost 56, in Lehigh County.

At 12:01 a.m. on April 24, all northbound traffic must exit at the Quakertown interchange and southbound traffic will be diverted off at the Lehigh Valley Interchange.

Prior to the bridge removal, single-lane closures and traffic stoppages will occur April 23 during the night-time hours. The northbound left lane and the southbound left lane will be closed at 7 and 8 p.m., respectively to prepare for the April 24 closure.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted interchanges to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on closures and detours. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.
