Pa. Turnpike to Close Overnight March 6 between Downingtown and Valley Forge

Six-hour closure needed for demolition of Yellow Springs Road Bridge.

A 14-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) will be closed in both directions for six hours on March 6 between the Downingtown Interchange, Exit 312, in Chester County and the Valley Forge Interchange, Exit 326, in Montgomery County. The closure is required to protect travelers and workers during the demolition of the bridge carrying Yellow Springs Road over the Turnpike at milepost 317.3 in Chester County.

At 12:01 a.m. on March 6, all eastbound traffic will be diverted off at the Downingtown Interchange and all westbound traffic will be diverted off at the Valley Forge Interchange. Additionally, the Route 29 E-ZPass-Only Interchange, Exit 320, in Chester County will be closed to entering and exiting traffic. This stretch of the PA Turnpike will reopen by 6 a.m. March 6.

Prior to the detour, the contractor will close the right lane both eastbound and westbound approaching the overhead bridge at 7 p.m. on March 5 until the detour is lifted by 6 a.m. on March 6.

Eastbound Detour

Exit at the Downingtown Interchange. Take State Route 100 south (5 miles) to U.S. Route 30 east (2.5 miles) to U.S. Route 202 north (12 miles) to Interstate 76 west. Reenter the PA Turnpike at the Valley Forge Interchange.

Westbound Detour

Exit at the Valley Forge Interchange. Take U.S. Route 202 south (12 miles) to U.S. Route 30 west (2.5 miles) to State Route 100 north (5 miles) to reenter the PA Turnpike at the Downingtown Interchange.

The bridge will be rebuilt with a wider footprint to accommodate the eventual reconstruction and widening of the PA Turnpike from four to six lanes in this corridor. In case of inclement weather, the closure may be rescheduled for March 13 with times and detour routes still applicable.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted interchanges to assist drivers. Motorists can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866-976-8747. Changeable message signs will also provide information on closures and detours. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.
