Crash Closes Southbound Lanes of Northeastern Extension near Lansdale Exit
Tractor trailer overturned blocking all lanes at milepost 34.2 southbound.

JAN. 19, 2016 — The PA Turnpike Commission advises motorists that an accident on the Northeastern Extension (Interstate 476) at milepost 34.2 southbound in Franconia Twp., Montgomery Co. is blocking all lanes. A tractor trailer hauling oranges overturned about three miles north of the Lansdale Interchange (Exit #31). Motorists traveling southbound are being detoured off the Turnpike at the Quakertown Interchange (Exit #44) and being told to follow this detour route:

Southbound motorists exit at Quakertown Interchange (Exit #44), follow State Route 663 north to U.S. Route 309 south to U.S. route 202 south to State Route 63 west to the reenter the Turnpike at Lansdale Interchange (Exit #31).

The truck driver has been transported by helicopter to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Motorists should expect delays and heavy traffic on the detour route. The accident-scene cleanup is likely to continue through evening rush today. Traffic traveling northbound is not affected.
