Turnpike Bridge Demolition to Close Berks Road in Montgomery County
Planned detour scheduled on Oct. 9 in Worcester Township.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the Turnpike underpass at Berks Road in Worcester Township, Montgomery County is scheduled to be closed and traffic detoured on Oct. 9 from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Oct. 10.

The closure is necessary for the protection of residents, motorists and workers while a drainage pipe is installed across Berks Road. Message boards have been activated to alert motorists of the road closure and will be updated with any changes to the contractor’s schedule.

Berks Road will be closed at the Turnpike underpass located between Morris Road and W. Skippack Pike (State Route 73). A 2.3 mile detour route will direct traffic around the work zone using W. Skippack Pike, Bethel Road and Morris Road.

Local access on Berks will be available from either direction to the bridge; however, there will not be any vehicle or pedestrian traffic allowed through the underpass during the overnight closure. The contractor’s schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather. If the work is cancelled, the closure will be rescheduled for Oct. 10 with times and detours still applicable.

The work is part of the Turnpike’s total reconstruction and widening project on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) starting south of Berks Road to north of the Lansdale Interchange (Exit #31). Visit the Turnpike website at www.patpconstruction.com/mpA20toA31/ for project updates.
