Westbound Closure on Pa. Turnpike between Carlisle and Breezewood
Truck Accident at milepost 221.3 in Cumberland County.

A 65-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is closed westbound between the Carlisle Interchange (Exit #226) and the Breezewood Interchange (Exit #161) as a result of a truck accident at milepost 221.3 westbound. A truck is blocking both westbound lanes and the left eastbound lane.  Three people are reported injured and have been taken to local hospitals.

The recommended detour for westbound motorists: exit at Carlisle (#226), take State Route 11 north to I-81 south (58 miles) to Maryland to I-70 west (I-81, Exit MD #4), (48 miles) to State Route 30 east and reenter at Breezewood Interchange (#161).

Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be placed to inform customers of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

Travelers can get Turnpike traffic alerts by calling 866-976-TRIP (8747) or visiting the live Travel Conditions Map online at www.paturnpike.com/webmap. The Pa. Turnpike’s smartphone app, TRIP Talk, streams audio advisories to iPhone and Droid users so they can keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
