Pa. Turnpike to Close Overnight Between Cranberry and Butler Valley Interchanges
Closures needed for bridge beam erection.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike alerts motorists traveling between Cranberry Interchange (Exit #28) and Butler Valley Interchange (Exit #39) of two separate closures occurring July 11 into July 12.

The overnight closures are needed to allow crews to set beams for the overhead replacement bridge at milepost 29.33, which carries Thorn Hill Road over the Turnpike mainline in Marshall Township, Allegheny County. This bridge is being replaced as an early-action project leading up to the total reconstruction project between mileposts 28 and 31. The new bridge is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

Beginning at 11 p.m. on July 11 the eastbound lanes between Cranberry and Butler Valley interchanges will be closed until 3 a.m. on July 12.

The recommended detour for eastbound motorists is; exit at Cranberry Interchange (Exit #28), take I-79 north to State Route 228 east (8.6 miles) to State Route 8 south (6.1 miles) to reenter at Butler Valley Interchange (Exit #39).

Then, beginning at 3:30 a.m. on July 12, the westbound lanes will be closed between Butler Valley and Cranberry interchanges until 8 a.m.

The recommended detour for westbound motorists is; exit at Butler Valley Interchange (Exit #39), take State Route 8 north (7 miles) to State Route 228 west (7 miles) to I-79 south to reenter at Cranberry Interchange (Exit #28).

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting motorists at the Cranberry and the Butler Valley interchanges during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.

Message boards will be placed to inform motorists of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used.
