Pa. Turnpike Interchange Resurfacing Project to Begin in Montgomery County
Traffic impacts expected at the Ft. Washington Interchange.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike advises that construction activities at the Ft. Washington Interchange (Exit #339) in Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, will begin the week of July 13, impacting traffic for motorists entering and exiting the interchange from the Turnpike (I-276) and State Route 309.

This week, weather permitting, the contractor will begin installing advance warning signs and traffic-control devices on the Turnpike mainline, east of Norristown (Exit #333) and west of Willow Grove (Exit #343) and in the vicinity of the toll plaza for motorists entering the system from State Route 309.

Allan Myers of Worcester, Pa., was awarded the $2.8 million toll-funded contract to resurface the interchange ramps, reconstruct the shoulders, install new guiderails, and other work related to the interchange and its parking areas. Motorists using State Route 309 should expect minor impacts to traffic during peak hours when entering the interchange to travel eastbound and westbound on I-276. Work is expected to be completed by fall 2015.

Some work on the Turnpike mainline may require the contractor to reduce traffic to a single lane during nighttime hours with reduced work-zone speeds of 55 mph. The Turnpike urges motorists traveling on I-276 approaching the Ft. Washington Interchange to be prepared for overnight single-lane traffic restrictions and to obey posted speed limits. Construction-zone speed limits are enforceable, and fines will be increased.

In the event of an emergency, the Turnpike will activate its Variable Message Signs and Highway Advisory Radio System (1640 AM) to inform motorists of conditions.
