Pa. Turnpike to Close Overnight Between Bensalem and Delaware Valley on June 28
Six-hour closure needed for placement of bridge beams.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that a seven-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276) will be closed in both directions for six hours on June 28 between the Bensalem (Exit #351) and Delaware Valley (Exit #358) interchanges. The closure is needed for the protection of motorists and workers during the erection of bridge beams on the overhead bridge that carries Bensalem Boulevard (State Route 2015) over the Turnpike in Bensalem Township, Bucks County.

At 12:01 a.m. on June 28, all eastbound traffic must exit at the Bensalem Interchange and westbound traffic will be diverted off at the Delaware Valley Interchange. Additionally, the Street Road E-ZPass-Only Interchange (Exit #352) will be closed to eastbound traffic on I-276 and Street Road (State Route 132). The Pennsylvania Turnpike mainline will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m.

Prior to the detour, the contractor will close the right lane eastbound and westbound between milepost 354 and 357 until the pattern is lifted by 9 a.m. on June 28. Also scheduled to occur will be periodic 15-minute stoppages in either direction at the Delaware River Bridge toll plaza to allow the contractor to safely transport multiple beams from one side of the Turnpike to the other, which requires the large flat-bed trucks to make U-turns before the toll plaza at the bridge.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the Bensalem and Delaware Valley interchanges to assist drivers. Motorists can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866.976.8747. Changeable message signs will also provide updated information regarding closures and detours and all turnpike travelers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.
