Pennsylvania Turnpike to Close June 16 Between Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley Exits

Two-hour, overnight closure necessary for bridge beam work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) alerts motorists that the Turnpike (I-76) will be closed in both directions between the Butler Valley Interchange (Exit #39) and Allegheny Valley Interchange (Exit #48) between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., June 16. Drivers exiting at these interchanges should use the following approved detours:

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC Exiting at Butler Valley Interchange
Follow State Route 8 north (1.7 miles)
Right on to State Route 910 east (10 miles)
Left onto Freeport Road (0.7 miles) to Allegheny Valley Interchange

WESTBOUND TRAFFIC Exiting at Allegheny Valley Interchange
Follow Freeport Road south (0.7 miles)
Right to State Route 910 west (10 miles)
Take ramp to State Route 8 south (1.7 miles) to Butler Valley Interchange

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley interchanges during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during this time. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

The closure is needed for workers to safely deliver the bridge beams to be used for the widening of a mainline bridge over Deer Creek at milepost 46.9 in Allegheny County.

This widening is needed to accommodate the total reconstruction of the Turnpike from milepost 40 to 48.  For more information on this project please visit http://www.mp40-48construction.com.
