Pa. Turnpike to Close Between Harrisburg East and Lebanon-Lancaster Interchanges

Overnight closure on May 9 needed for paving work in Dauphin County.

A 19-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions between the Harrisburg East Interchange (Exit #247) and the Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange (Exit #266) starting at 11:30 p.m. on May 9 until 6 a.m. on May 10. The closure is needed to safely allow crews to pave and restripe the lines in both directions near milepost 251 in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County.

The recommended detour for westbound motorists is: exit at Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange; take State Route 72 north to U.S. Route 322 west to I-283 south and reenter at Harrisburg East Interchange.

The recommended detour for eastbound motorists is: exit at Harrisburg East Interchange; take I-283 north to U.S. Route 322 east to State Route 72 south and reenter at Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange.

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers, who should expect higher traffic volumes on the detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be placed to inform customers of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

A reminder to motorists that while Lawn and Highspire service plazas will stay open during the construction work, travelers remaining inside the plazas after 11:30 p.m. will not be able to leave until the work is complete the following morning. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.
