Vehicle Accident at MP 355.1 EB has I-276 Closed at Bensalem (Exit #351)

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission reports that a crash occurred at 5:25 a.m. on the PA Turnpike at milepost 355.1 eastbound in a construction zone just past the Bensalem Exit #351; all lanes are blocked eastbound.

A fatal crash has occurred in a construction zone approximately four miles east of the Bensalem Interchange.

Emergency crews are on scene at the incident that involves a passenger vehicle, with one occupant that entered a work zone striking three construction workers. The driver of the vehicle was fatally injured.

One worker was transported by EMS (by ground) to Frankford Torresdale and another was flown to Temple Hospital. The third construction worker remains on scene and has not been transported at this time. 

At 5:45 a.m. the Turnpike was closed and all eastbound traffic continues to exit at the Bensalem Interchange Exit #351).  ITS devices are activated to the Reading Interchange.

Trapped backlog is being turned around and there are no delays reported at this time.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the Bensalem interchanges to assist motorists. Motorists can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866.976.8747. Changeable message signs will also provide updated information regarding closures and detours. All turnpike travelers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly. DETOURS

Traveling eastbound on I-276 – All traffic must exit at Bensalem Interchange (#351). Take US Route 1 south to State Route 132 east to US Route 13 north and re-enter the Turnpike at the Delaware Valley Interchange to continue eastbound on I-276.
