Pa. Turnpike to Close Between Beaver Valley and New Castle Interchanges

Closure needed for overhead bridge work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) advises motorists that the Turnpike will be closed on March 22 in both directions between the Beaver Valley Interchange (Exit #13) and the New Castle Interchange (Exit #10) for bridge work.

Starting at midnight on March 22, traffic will be diverted off the Turnpike at both interchanges with the following detours in effect:

Detour for westbound traffic exiting at Beaver Valley Interchange: Take State Route 18 north (.3 miles) to State Route 351 west (3.3 miles) to re-enter at New Castle Interchange.

Detour for eastbound traffic exiting at New Castle Interchange: Go straight to Rt. 351 (1 mile) take State Route 351 east (2 miles) to State Route 18 south (1.5 miles) to re-enter the Turnpike at the Beaver Valley Exit.

The Turnpike will reopen at 6 a.m. to traffic in both directions.

Alternate-route cards will be available to travelers exiting each interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on the detour roads at this time. Message boards will be placed to inform customers and Highway Advisory Radio broadcasts at station 1640 AM will also be used.

Additional overnight closures will follow as needed for beam erection on the two bridges. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.

This closure is necessary to allow crews to set the bridge beams for the second of two overhead railroad bridges at mileposts 12.63 and 12.67. This early-action bridge work is part of the future Beaver River Bridge replacement project.
