Pa. Turnpike Makes E-ZPass Easier to Get at GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN'S Food Markets

E-ZPass 'GoPaks' are now available at 155 GIANT/MARTIN'S stores in Pa.
Content MIDDLETOWN, PA. (MARCH 2, 2015) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced today that GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN'S Food Markets are the newest retailers in the state to offer E-ZPass transponder sales. Turnpike travelers can now walk into 155 GIANT or MARTIN'S locations in Pennsylvania to buy an E-ZPass GoPak at the customer-service counter in the front of the store.

E-ZPass is not only easier and more convenient than paying with cash, it's also less expensive. In fact, E-ZPass customers save as much as 35 percent on Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls compared to those who pay cash. Today, more than 77 percent of all Pennsylvania Turnpike travelers are enjoying those savings by paying with E-ZPass.

"For more than 90 years, GIANT/MARTIN'S has been delivering quality and value to customers, and we are proud to partner with them to make it easier for Pennsylvania Turnpike customers to enroll in E-ZPass," said William J. Capone, chief of communications and public relations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. "With the addition of GIANT/MARTIN'S, we now have more than 450 Pennsylvania retail locations where customers can pick up an E-ZPass GoPak."

The E-ZPass GoPak allows Turnpike travelers to obtain an E-ZPass transponder that can be used right away on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and toll roads, bridges and tunnels in 14 other states (including all neighboring states).

"At GIANT/MARTIN'S, we're focused on making it easy by giving our customers what they want, and our new partnership with E-ZPass is a natural fit," said Chris Brand, public and community relations manager for GIANT/MARTIN'S.

Customers who purchase a GoPak must register their E-ZPass within 72 hours of picking it up by going online to www.paturnpike.com/ezpass or by calling, toll-free, 877-736-6727.

It costs $42 to purchase an E-ZPass at GIANT/MARTIN'S if using a credit or debit card to set up an auto-replenishment account; the cost includes a $35 toll balance, a $3 annual fee that the Pennsylvania Turnpike uses to maintain the account and a one-time GIANT/MARTIN'S convenience fee of $4.

The transponder is usually mounted inside the vehicle on the windshield; it sends a signal to an overhead reader in the toll lane to classify the vehicle and deduct the appropriate toll from a prepaid account. With auto replenishment, the account is refilled with $35 when the balance dips below $10. Transponders can be moved between vehicles.

Since the E-ZPass retail program started in 2007, the Pennsylvania Turnpike has sold more than 600,000 E-ZPass transponders at retailers including AAA, Acme, Giant Eagle, GetGo, Karns Foods, Kuhns Markets, Sunoco APlus Stores (at Turnpike service plazas), Walmart and Wegmans.

A complete list of all E-ZPass retail locations in Pennsylvania is available at the Turnpike web site, http://www.paturnpike.com/ezpass/enroll2.htm

E-ZPass has been available in Pennsylvania for nearly 15 years; with more than 26 million E-ZPass tags in circulation among 26 toll agencies across 15 states, E-ZPass is the world's largest interoperable tolling system.
