| Morwood Road and Clump Road to Close February 16 in Montgomery County Detours planned through Nov. in Franconia and Salford townships. |

| The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the bridges carrying Morwood Road (State Route 1016) in Franconia Township and Clump Road in Salford Township over the Northeastern Extension (I-476) in Montgomery County, will close to traffic by noon on Feb. 16. A low-bidder contract valued at $9.4 million was awarded to Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Pa., to replace the two overhead structures earlier this month. The Morwood Road bridge is located at milepost A35.24 and the Clump Road bridge at milepost A37.72. The work area extends approximately 4 miles north of the Lansdale Interchange and 6 miles south of the Quakertown Interchange. The Morwood Road detour will have a separate route for passenger and commercial vehicles. Once closed, all cars will be directed to follow Allentown Road (State Route 1001) to Creamery Road (State Route 1018) and back to Morwood Road (1.5 miles) and commercial trucks will follow Allentown Road to Harleysville Pike (State Route 113) and Sumneytown Pike (State Route 63) to Morwood Road (5.2 miles). The detour for Clump Road will direct all vehicles to follow Allentown Road to Ridge Road (State Route 563) and onto Whites Mill Road (1.3 miles). Signs will be posted on both local roads next week to alert motorists to the Feb. 16 closures. The detour routes are predetermined and approved by PennDOT and will remain in effect until the new bridges are open to traffic in late November. The week of Feb. 2, the contractor will begin installing traffic control devices on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) and motorists traveling the Turnpike should anticipate reduced speeds, lane closures, stoppages and overnight road closures when approaching the work area between milepost A34-A38. Within the work zone, speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph for the duration of the project. Prior to implementing the detours on Morwood and Clump roads, traffic control improvements will be made at three intersections: two in Franconia Township and one in Salford Township. Local access along Morwood Road and Clump Road will be provided from either direction up to the bridge during construction. A temporary traffic signal will be installed along the detour routes at the intersection of Allentown and Creamery roads and adjustments will be made to the existing traffic signals at the intersection of Allentown and Morwood roads and Allentown and Ridge roads. Motorists traveling in either direction on the Turnpike should be prepared for intermittent nighttime single-lane traffic patterns Mondays-Fridays between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. northbound and 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. southbound with posted speed limits of 40 mph. The Pennsylvania Turnpike urges the public to stay alert and travel at posted speed limits through all work zones.
