Placement of Bridge Beams to Close Southbound Interstate 476 on July 13

Northeastern Extension to be closed for six hours between Quakertown and Lansdale.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission cautions motorists that a 13-mile stretch of the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed southbound only for six hours July 13 between the Quakertown (Exit #44) and Lansdale (Exit #31) interchanges. The closure is necessary for the protection of motorists and workers during placement of bridge beams on the structure that carries Ridge Road (State Route 563) over the Turnpike at milepost A37.4 in Salford Township, Montgomery County.

At 12:01 a.m. on July 13, southbound traffic will be diverted off at the Quakertown Interchange. By 6 a.m. the detour will be lifted and the Northeastern Extension reopened to traffic.

Northbound I-476 will remain open to motorists traveling north from the Mid-County Interchange or the east/west Turnpike mainline.

Prior to the closure, at 8 p.m. the night of July 12, motorists should be prepared for the right lane southbound and the left lane northbound to be closed between milepost A35-A39. The speed limit will be posted at 40 mph until the single-lane patterns are lifted. Construction-zone speed limits are enforceable and fines will be doubled.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the Quakertown Interchange to assist motorists. Travelers can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866.976.8747. Changeable message signs will also provide updated information regarding closures and detours. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. For emergencies, dial *11 on your mobile phone.

DETOURS

• Traveling southbound on I-476 — Exit at Quakertown Interchange (Exit #44): take State Route 663 north (John Fries Hwy.) to Route 309 south to State Route 63 west (Sumneytown Pike) to reenter the Turnpike at the Lansdale Interchange (Exit #31) to continue southbound on I-476.
