Pa. Turnpike to Close Eastbound Entry Ramp at the Bedford Interchange (#146)

Emergency overnight closure at interchange needed to repair drainage issue.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists of an overnight closure for eastbound traffic entering the Bedford Interchange (Exit #146). The closure will be in effect on June 19 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 20. Eastbound and westbound mainline traffic will not be affected. During the planned closure, no eastbound traffic will be permitted to enter the Turnpike at Bedford Interchange. Motorists wanting to travel eastbound on the turnpike should use the following approved detour:

Eastbound Detour:
  • Exit at Bedford Interchange
  • U.S. Route 220 north (.2 miles)
  • U.S. Route 220 south (2.5 miles)
  • U.S. Route 30 east (18.5 miles)
  • This will bring you to the Breezewood Interchange (Exit #161) for eastbound entry on to the Turnpike.

Alternate-route cards will be available to travelers at the Bedford Interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during this time. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

The closure is needed while crews repair a drainage issue on the eastbound entry ramp. This work is in conjunction with the Bedford Interchange Slope work, being performed by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, of New Enterprise, Pa.
