| Pa. Turnpike Resurfacing Project on Interstate 476 in Lehigh and Carbon Counties Begins Next Week Roadwork and reduced speeds may cause delays between Exits 56 – 74 through summer 2015. |

| The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) advises motorists using Interstate 476 between Lehigh Valley (Exit #56) and Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) to be prepared for nighttime lane closures and reduced speeds to go into effect the week of April 14, weather permitting. A $7.9 million contract was recently awarded to Pikes Creek Site Contractors (a division of Reading Materials, Inc.), of Skippack, Pa., the low-bidder, for the resurfacing of a 4.5-mile section of the Northeastern Extension (I-476). The contractor will complete the project intermittently, establishing two separate construction zones with a completion date set for the summer of 2015. This project is 100% funded by toll dollars. The project corridor extends north of the Lehigh Valley Interchange to the Mahoning Valley Interchange (milepost A69.0 – A73.6). The contract provides for the milling and paving of the existing northbound and southbound travel lanes, shoulder reconstruction, and the replacement of the concrete median barrier. Additional work includes milling and paving in the southbound Lehigh Tunnel. The contractor is currently installing advance warning signs and traffic control devices (April 8 – 11) to establish the first work zone (milepost A69 – A70.7) located south of the Lehigh Tunnel and will start work on the shoulder the week of April 14. The contractor anticipates this section to be completed by June 27. After the Fourth of July holiday restrictions are lifted on July 7, the contractor will proceed with the remaining roadwork and other construction-related activities for the duration of the project. Construction-related activities on I-476 that require lane closures and reduced work-zone speeds will only occur Mondays through Saturdays during off-peak hours (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.). Motorists are reminded that construction-zone speed limits are enforceable, and fines are increased. The contactor's schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. Motorists should be prepared to give their milepost location and direction of travel and move their vehicle out of travel lanes if possible.
