Pa. Turnpike to Close March 23 Between Bedford (#146) and Breezewood (#161) Interchanges

Closure needed to remove overhead bridge at milepost 153.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling the Turnpike (I-76) of a bi-directional closure between the Bedford Interchange (Exit #146) and Breezewood Interchange (Exit #161).  The closure will be in effect from as early as 1 a.m. to no later than 6 a.m., March 23. Motorists exiting at these interchanges should use the following approved detours:

Westbound Detour:
  • Exit at Breezewood Interchange
  • U.S Route 30 west (18.5 miles)
  • U.S. Route 220 north (2.5 miles)
  • U.S. Route 220 south (.2 miles)
  • This will bring you to the Bedford Interchange to re-enter the Turnpike

Eastbound Detour:
  • Exit at Bedford Interchange
  • U.S. Route 220 north (.2 miles)
  • U.S. Route 220 south (2.5 miles)
  • U.S. Route 30 east (18.5 miles)
  • This will bring you to the Breezewood Interchange to re-enter the Turnpike

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at both Bedford and Breezewood interchanges during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during this time. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.
The closure is needed while crews remove the overhead bridge at milepost 153.1 in Snake Spring Township, Bedford County. This is an early-action project for total reconstruction of the turnpike mainline between mileposts 149 and 155.
