MIDDLETOWN PA (MARCH 2, 2014) -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike is operating under a Winter-Weather Warning due to the winter storm. Storm warnings have been issued for all areas of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Motorists should stay alert for possible heavy snow, poor visibility and slick roadway. When encountering changing conditions or approaching emergency and maintenance workers, reduce your speed and keep alert.

The initial hours of a storm can create fast-changing roadway conditions; it's imperative that motorists use extreme caution as  snow begins to fall. Some stretches of roadway may be clear and dry but can quickly become snow-covered and slippery.

Extra maintenance crews and State Police patrols are on duty across the turnpike, clearing the roadway and assisting motorists as needed. For safety reasons, drivers should not pass plow trucks. 

If it becomes necessary, Pennsylvania Turnpike speed limits may be temporarily reduced to 45 miles per hour tonight or tomorrow where conditions warrant. At some point during the storm, the Turnpike could also ban certain types of commercial and private trailers if necessary. Please check for any such restrictions before you enter the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
