Pa. Turnpike Lifts Travel Restrictions in Some Areas

Motorists still asked to drive with caution.

The Pa. Turnpike Commission (PTC) is lifting the speed-limit restriction of 45 mph for all drivers traveling between Carlisle Interchange (Exit #226) and the Delaware River Bridge (Exit #359), as well as from Mid-County (Exit #20) to Lehigh Valley (Exit #56) on the Northeastern Extension.

The PTC is also lifting the tractor-trailer ban for drivers pulling empty and double trailers between Carlisle Interchange (Exit #226) and the Delaware River Bridge (Exit #359), as well as from Mid-County (Exit #20) to Lehigh Valley (Exit #56) on the Northeastern Extension.  However, over-dimensional trucks (those requiring special, Class-9 permits) are still banned from traveling the system from New Stanton Interchange (Exit #75) to the Delaware River Bridge and on the entire Northeastern Extension.

Trucks are also being restricted to the right lane of travel in both directions between New Stanton Interchange and Fort Littleton Interchange (Exit #180).

Since more snow is still expected throughout the night, the PTC may reinstate the restrictions at any time. Drivers are still asked to travel with caution and expect changing weather conditions. Maintenance crews and Pennsylvania State Police will be monitoring the roadway throughout the storm. They will be clearing the roadway and assisting motorists as needed.
