Heavy Traffic Expected on Interstate 476 at Mid-County Nov. 2

Expect lane closures and stoppages on ramps to northbound I-476 and eastbound I-276.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises northbound motorists on the Blue Route (Interstate 476) to be prepared for slow-moving and stopped traffic exiting the Mid-County Toll Plaza Nov. 2 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 6 a.m. the Turnpike will set traffic patterns, closing the left lane on the ramp eastbound to I-276 and the right lane on the ramp to I-476 northbound for the duration of the repair work. For motorists exiting the toll plaza to travel eastbound to Philadelphia and New Jersey, the work will require periodic ramp closures of no more than 20-minutes.

The ramp restrictions will allow the Turnpike to replace the damaged barrier attenuators located at the junction to I-476 and I-276.  Motorists entering the Turnpike from the Blue Route will have access to Express E-ZPass and all conventional lanes but could experience delays until the patterns are lifted by 2 p.m. The work is dependent on the weather and may be rescheduled.

This work will not impact traffic for motorists traveling south on the Northeastern Extension and those heading west on the Turnpike and exiting at Mid-County to go south on the Blue Route.

If the Turnpike's Highway Advisory Radio is activated, as indicated by yellow flashing lights, please tune to Radio 1640 AM for updates. For emergencies, please dial *11.
