| The portion of Old York Road in Fairview Township, York County that’s been closed while the Pa. Turnpike replaced the overhead bridge at milepost 243.2 will reopen this week. After approximately six months, the bridge replacement is complete, and the road will reopen Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. Contractors worked on a compressed schedule to accommodate the roughly 8,000 motorists who use Old York Road each day. Motorists have been detoured to I-83 to get around the closed section between Normandy Memorial Drive and Marsh Run Road. This overhead bridge project was one of two early action projects needed to accommodate the upcoming total reconstruction and widening of the Turnpike from milepost 242 to 245. The second early action project, the Marsh Run Road Bridge replacement, is substantially complete, and traffic has been shifted to the new bridge. Some minor remaining work is required to finish both bridges, but traffic on Old York Road and Marsh Run Road will be maintained. The milepost 242-245 total reconstruction and six-lane widening project, expected to begin next year, will result in the improvement of a critical section of the Turnpike between Harrisburg East and Harrisburg West interchanges.
