Pennsylvania Turnpike CEO Submits His Resignation

Roger E. Nutt to leave his post at the end of the month
HARRISBURG, PA (10/9/2012) – Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Chief Executive Officer Roger E. Nutt announced today that he will be leaving his post effective on Oct. 31, 2012.

In a letter to Turnpike Commission Chairman William K. Lieberman and the other members of the Commission, Nutt cited health concerns for his decision to resign his position.

“I have decided that, for my long-term health, it is best I resign at this time,” Nutt said.
Nutt was named as the Commission’s CEO in March 2011. Prior to joining the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Nutt worked in senior-level positions at various New Jersey transportation agencies for 28 years, including serving as executive director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the New Jersey Highway Authority and the New Jersey Transit Corporation.

“It is with mixed emotions that I accept Roger’s resignation,” said Lieberman. “But I understand that Roger’s decision to leave at this time is in the best interest of his long-term health and well-being.”

In his resignation letter, Nutt cited a number of his most important accomplishments. They include the adoption of a new professional services procurement process; the major expansion of the Turnpike’s capital-improvement program; and the creation of two new Commission offices, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Compliance.

“I know I speak for my fellow Commissioners and the entire Turnpike family in recognizing Roger’s leadership role in advancing the future of the Turnpike,” Lieberman said. “We appreciate his dedication and commitment to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and wish him the best of health and happiness for a long and enjoyable retirement.”

Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Chief Operating Officer Craig Shuey will serve as Acting CEO beginning on Nov. 1, 2012 until a permanent replacement is named.
