Weekend Stoppages to Impact Travel on I-76 between Valley Forge and Morgantown Exits

Traffic paces required for demolition activities west of Downingtown exit in Chester County.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission reports that motorists traveling on the Turnpike (I-76) east from Morgantown and west from Valley Forge will experience slow-moving traffic and 15-minute stoppages during the morning hours on Sept. 22 near the Downingtown Interchange (Exit #312).

Brubacher Excavating Inc., Bowmansville, Pa., is developing a commercial property (Eagleview Crossing) adjacent to State Route 100 in Uwchlan and Upper Uwchlan Townships and the westbound Turnpike mainline near the Downingtown Interchange. The work requires traffic paces and a 15-minute stoppage to safely complete blasting operations without jeopardizing worker and motorist safety.

The blast is scheduled to occur Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m. but may be conducted anytime within the allowable window of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Approximately 15-20 minutes prior to the blast, Turnpike maintenance personnel and State Police will stop motorists traveling east of the Morgantown Interchange (Exit #298) and west of the Valley Forge Interchange (Exit #326) and begin a slow-moving traffic pace (approximately 25 mph), bringing traffic to a stop eastbound at milepost 311.5 and westbound at the Downingtown exit ramp.

Local traffic on northbound State Route 100 entering and exiting westbound I-76 at Downingtown should anticipate traffic to be stopped for no more than 15 minutes at the toll plaza. Motorists exiting the toll plaza to travel southbound on State Route 100 will not be stopped.

The weekend traffic paces and stoppages are scheduled to continue between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. until the end of the month. Message boards will be activated to inform customers of the restrictions impacting traffic on the Turnpike mainline and State Route 100.

Motorists traveling I-76 between Morgantown and Valley Forge, and on State Route 100, are encouraged to plan accordingly. The work is weather permitting and safety related. Unsafe conditions could cause the stoppage to be delayed or cancelled for the protection of the traveling public and workers.
