Renaissance Faire Traffic May Cause Delays at PA Turnpike's Lebanon-Lancaster Exit

Turnpike construction will be suspended on I-76 and State Route 72.

Pennsylvania Turnpike officials anticipate heavy traffic this Labor Day holiday in Lancaster County when thousands of visitors converge on the Mount Hope Estate & Winery fairgrounds, located ½ mile south of the Lebanon-Lancaster Interchange (Exit #266), for the Renaissance Faire Sept. 1-3 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Faire attracts thousands of weekend visitors and is located 15 miles north of Lancaster and 14 miles east of Hershey on State Route 72 (Lebanon Road) located ½ miles south of the Turnpike exit in Rapho Township, Lancaster County.

Motorists traveling on the PA Turnpike (I-76) east from Harrisburg East (Exit #247) and west from Reading (Exit #286) should expect delays entering and exiting the toll plaza, Sept. 1, 2 and 3. Motorists traveling to Hershey should use Harrisburg East (Exit #247).

Work associated with the Turnpike’s rehabilitation of the overhead bridge that carries State Route 72 over the Turnpike (milepost 266.7) will also be suspended during the three day event but visitors will encounter new traffic patterns.

To make best use of all available travel lanes, Turnpike maintenance and construction related activities will be suspended across the entire Turnpike system during the holiday restrictions starting at 3 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 30) through 6 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 5).

Other construction activity that does not impact travel lanes may continue behind the barrier reducing shoulder widths, but at least two lanes in each direction will be open except for emergencies.

The Turnpike will have increased staffing at the effected interchanges as well as boosted maintenance and safety patrols. For Turnpike emergencies dial *11 on your mobile device. To avoid delays, plan ahead before you leave by calling the Turnpike Roadway Information line, 866-976-TRIP (8747) to hear real-time Turnpike traffic alerts. Or, refer to the Turnpike’s Travel Conditions Map online at www.paturnpike.com.
