I-76, State Route 100 traffic impacts to occur on the interchange ramps at the Downingtown Exit #312.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike reports that construction activities at the Downingtown Interchange (Exit #312) in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, will begin on July 9, impacting traffic for motorists entering and exiting I-76 from Pottstown Pike (State Route 100).

The week of July 9-13, the contractor will begin placing advance warning signs and traffic-control devices on the Turnpike mainline, approximately 11 miles east of Morgantown (Exit #298) and 12 miles west of Valley Forge (Exit #326) and on State Route 100. For the past week, the contractor has been working near the toll plaza with little or no impacts to traffic, installing erosion- and sedimentation-control devices. All other construction activities that may impact traffic on I-76, State Route 100 and at the toll plaza will begin the week of July 13, weather permitting.

Highway Materials Inc. of Blue Bell was awarded the $1.4 million toll-funded contract to resurface the interchange ramps, install pavement markings, upgrade guiderail, replace concrete swales, as well as adjacent work in the area of the toll plaza and Pottstown Pike. Motorists on State Route 100 should expect minor impacts to traffic during peak hours when entering the toll plaza to travel on I-76. Work is expected to be done by October.

Some work on the Turnpike mainline may require the contractor to reduce traffic to a single lane during off-peak (nighttime) hours with reduced work-zone speeds of 40 mph. The Turnpike urges motorists traveling on I-76 approaching the Downingtown exit to be prepared for overnight single-lane traffic restrictions and to obey posted speed limits. Construction-zone speed limits are enforceable, and fines will be doubled.

In the event of an emergency, the Turnpike will activate its Variable Message Signs and Highway Advisory Radio System (1640 AM) to inform motorists of conditions.

The Turnpike is committed to distributing complete, accurate and consistent travel information and providing exceptional customer service. Turnpike motorists can get up-to-date travel conditions by calling 866-976-TRIP (8747). This toll-free number gives audio advisories for the region in which you are traveling, including delays and closures.
