| Six Pa. Turnpike Bridges over I-476 Scheduled for Rehabilitation Preliminary work starts next week between Lehigh Valley and Pocono Exits |

| The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists who travel the Turnpike’s Northeastern Extension (I-476) that work to rehabilitate six overhead bridges between the Lehigh Valley (Exit #56) and Pocono (Exit #95) Interchanges will begin the week of June 4. Mosites Construction Co., Pittsburgh, was awarded the $1.8 million contract in April and anticipates the work to be completed by October. On or about June 4, weather permitting, the contractor will begin installing traffic-control devices to establish a safe work zone on the Northeastern Extension between milepost A66, approximately 10 miles north of Lehigh Valley and milepost A84, nine miles south of Pocono. Message boards will be placed to give advance notice of construction to begin the following week (June 11). The six bridges that carry local traffic over the Turnpike are: Slatington Pike (State Route 0873); Friedens Road (State Route 4020); Mountain Road (State Route 4024); E. Lizard Creek Road (State Route 0895); Grange Road; and Reservoir Road (State Route 1001). The contractor expects minimal impacts to local traffic on the bridges during the five-month project. The contractor is permitted to work seven days a week after 8 p.m. weeknights and 7 p.m. weekends. Work includes the complete removal of existing paint and the application of a new paint system to the four steel bridges and the application of anti-graffiti coating to concrete surfaces of all six bridges. Additional work will include: concrete deck repairs, rehabilitation of the parapets, resurfacing, replacement of the protective fencing, power washing concrete surfaces and application of anti-graffiti coatings. All work is weather permitting and subject to change. Motorists traveling in both directions on I-476 should anticipate reduced speeds and lane closures within the work zones in the vicinity of the overhead bridges between milepost A66-A84. The speed limit will be posted at 55 mph from June – October and reduced to 40 mph when single-lane traffic patterns are in effect. Construction-zone speed limits are enforceable and fines will be doubled. In the event of emergency-lane closures, the Turnpike will activate its Variable Message Signs and Highway Advisory Radio System (1640 AM) to inform motorists of conditions. Motorists can dial *11 for emergencies and/or use the yellow call boxes for roadway assistance. Turnpike motorists can also get up-to-date travel conditions by calling 866-976-TRIP (8747).
