Pa. Turnpike Announces Reopening of Dauphin County Service Plaza

Lawn Service Plaza in Conewago Township opens May 18 at 7 a.m.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike's newly rebuilt Lawn Service Plaza in Conewago Township, Dauphin County, will reopen May 18 at 7 a.m. following a nine-month renovation period. The plaza, which serves westbound turnpike travelers, closed in September 2010.

Located approximately 11 miles east of the Harrisburg East Interchange (Exit #247) the new plaza features a food-court layout with a wider variety of offerings including Burger King, Starbucks, Bassett's Turkey, Philly Steak & Gyro and Hershey's Ice Cream as well as a Sunoco fueling station and convenience store.

The larger, brighter plaza replaces the vintage 1950s grey stone building demolished last fall. It is the ninth such facility that has been completely renovated on the Turnpike in the past four years under a Public-Private Partnership with HMSHost Family Restaurants LLC and Sunoco Inc.

The Bowmansville Service Plaza in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County — which closed for renovations last fall — reopened on May 12. Located about four miles east of the Reading Interchange (Exit #286), it serves eastbound turnpike traffic.

Three other Turnpike service plazas will close after Labor Day this year and reopen before Memorial Day 2012. They are the South Somerset Plaza in Somerset County and the Plainfield and Blue Mountain Plazas, both located in Cumberland County.

Customers can download a free Service Plaza reference booklet from the Pa. Turnpike's website at www.paturnpike.com.
