| HARRISBURG, PA (02/26/2010)(readMedia)-- Pennsylvania Turnpike officials announced that a general ban of tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles put in place last night on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) was lifted at noon. In addition, the Pa. Turnpike also lifted a ban of tractor-trailers hauling double or empty trailers for eastern Pa. only between the Carlisle Exit (#226) and the New Jersey line. However, that ban - which also pertains to any passenger vehicle towing a trailer - remains in place for the western part of the Turnpike from Carlisle to the Ohio line. Any of the prohibited vehicles could be pulled over and cited, according to Pennsylvania State Police Troop T. The ban will be periodically reevaluated to determine if it can be lifted as road and weather conditions change. Due to conditions, the entire turnpike system remains under a reduced speed limit of 45 mph, including the Northeastern Extension. The accident that has led to the closure between Carlisle and Breezewood is in final cleanup stages and expected to reopen later this afternoon.
