PA Turnpike Speed Limit Reduced to 45 mph on Northeastern Extension Only

Motorists in Northeastern PA Urged to Avoid Unnecessary Travel
HARRISBURG, PA (02/25/2010)(readMedia)-- As of 1 p.m. today, the speed limit on the Northeastern Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) from Mid-County to Clarks Summit has been reduced to 45 mph due to the winter storm. Motorists should not travel unless necessary.

Northbound motorists entering the Northeastern Extension via Mid-County tolls should be aware that the Express E-ZPass lanes have been closed to accommodate ongoing storm preparations. Tag holders should use the traditional E-ZPass lanes to the left of the express lanes.

If conditions warrant, the Turnpike could decide this afternoon to ban certain vehicles, namely doubles and empty trailers, from the Northeastern Extension. Pennsylvania Turnpike motorists will be alerted about any such restrictions via Variable Message Signs, Highway Advisory Radio station 1640 AM, and the Turnpike web site, www.paturnpike.com.
