Portion of Old State Road in Pine Township Will Close for Bridge Replacement

Detour to be in place for three years as crews widen PA Turnpike
HARRISBURG, PA (08/28/2009)(readMedia)-- On Monday, Aug. 31 at 7 a.m., a portion of Old State Road between Whippoorwill Hill Road and Fox Hollow Lane in Pine Township, Allegheny County, will be closed to allow for the replacement of a PA Turnpike bridge. The closure will be in effect until mid summer, 2012.

Traffic will be directed to a 3-mile, PennDOT-approved, detour via State Route 910 (Gibsonia Road), State Route 4031 (Babcock Boulevard) and State Route 4068 (Bakerstown-Warrendale Road). Detour signs will be posted, and drivers can anticipate an additional 10 minutes to navigate the detour.

The bridge carrying the PA Turnpike over Old State Road will be removed and replaced with a new, concrete I-beam structure, and a portion of Old State Road will be realigned and reconstructed as part of the Turnpike's total reconstruction project between mileposts 31 and 38. Due to the realignment of Old State Road and three-stage construction of the structure, Old State Road must remain closed while the Turnpike is reconstructed over this structure.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's $113 million, 6.78 mile total-reconstruction and widening project between mileposts 31 and 38 spans Pine, Richland, Marshall and Hampton townships in Allegheny County. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
