Heavy Traffic Expected at Lansdale Interchange on I-476

This Weekend Due to Philadelphia Folk Festival

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (08/13/2009)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises Northeastern Extension motorists to be prepared for heavier-than-usual traffic this weekend near the Lansdale Interchange (Exit #31) on I-476 as a result of the Philadelphia Folk Festival near Schwenksville, Pa., Aug. 14-16. Officials anticipate the heaviest traffic volumes will occur Friday afternoon and evening, especially for northbound I-476 travelers approaching Lansdale.

Several construction projects are under way on the Northeastern Extension, and motorists are urged to stay alert for slow-moving vehicles, stop-and-go traffic and lane restrictions. Posted speed limits will be enforced and fines doubled in work zones.

If the Turnpike's Highway Advisory Radio is activated, as indicated by yellow flashing lights, please tune to Radio 1640 AM for updates. Motorists can also get real-time Pa. Turnpike alerts by calling 866-976-TRIP (8747). The toll-free, voice-activated TRIP line has frequent updates and provides targeted audio alerts for specific Turnpike sections.

Officials also remind regional travelers that two Eastern-Pennsylvania Turnpike service plazas - King of Prussia and Hickory Run - are temporarily shut down. TheAllentown Plaza (milepost A55.9), serving north and southbound travelers, is the only plaza open on the Northeastern Extension. Entering the Pa. Turnpike westbound from New Jersey, the North Neshaminy Plaza (milepost 352) is open between the Delaware River Bridge (Exit #359) and the Northeastern Extension.
