NEW STANTON, PA (08/11/2009)(readMedia)-- Eastbound motorists on the Pennsylvania Turnpike mainline (Interstate 76) will encounter a 3-mile long single-lane pattern at milepost 72.2 - 75.2. The single-lane will be in effect from 7 p.m. Aug. 11 until noon Aug. 12, weather permitting.

Eastbound turnpike travelers should be aware of the chance for slow-moving or stopped traffic between the Irwin (#67) and New Stanton (#75) exits, with possible delays of 30-60 minutes especially during the morning commute rush hour on Wednesday.

The contractor will be closing the right-lane for 3-miles while shifting temporary concrete barrier in the work zone to prepare for the next construction stage. Once the barrier shift begins, the single-lane pattern must stay in place until all barrier segments are relocated.

Unsuitable weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances may slow progress and result in the single-lane being extended beyond the noon target. In that case, delays and traffic backlogs could become even longer on Wednesday.

The single-lane restriction is needed for the Turnpike's Milepost 67-74 total-reconstruction project. The contractor, New Enterprise, will shift traffic onto newly built shoulder and right lanes so that reconstruction can commence on the passing lanes and center median.
