NEW STANTON, PA. (08/06/2009)(readMedia)-- Westbound motorists on the Pennsylvania Turnpike mainline (Interstate 76) will encounter a 4.5-mile long single-lane pattern at milepost 76.5 -- about 1 mile east of (before) the New Stanton Exit (#75). The single-lane will be in effect from 7 p.m. Aug. 8 until noon Aug. 9, weather permitting.

Westbound turnpike travelers should be aware of the chance for slow-moving or stopped traffic near New Stanton, with possible delays of 30-60 minutes especially after 10 a.m. Sunday.

The contractor will be shifting temporary concrete barrier in the work zone to prepare for the next construction stage. Once the barrier shift begins, the single-lane pattern must stay in place until all barrier segments are relocated.

Unsuitable weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances may slow progress and result in the single-lane being extended beyond the noon target. In that case, delays and traffic backlogs could become even longer on Sunday.

The single-lane restriction is needed for the Turnpike's Milepost 67-74 total-reconstruction project. The contractor, New Enterprise, will shift traffic onto newly built shoulder and right lanes so that reconstruction can commence on the passing lanes and center median. To complete the barrier shift, an eastbound single-lane pattern is scheduled near the Irwin Interchange (#67) starting Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. until Aug. 12 at noon. A separate travel advisory will be issued before then.
