Turnpike's New Stanton Service Plaza to Reopen on May 5

Formal Opening Set for May 14 at 11 a.m.

PITTSBURGH, PA (05/01/2009; 1325)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) will open the newly constructed New Stanton Service Plaza at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5. The plaza originally closed on Sept. 3, 2008 to allow for construction.

The New Stanton Service Plaza, located at Milepost 77.6 in Hempfield Township, serves only westbound traffic on the I-76 mainline in Pennsylvania. The plaza was constructed at a cost $5.9 million and was the fifth to be reconstructed and modernized under a 30-year, public-private redevelopment program involving Bethesda, Md.-based HMS Host Corp. and Sunoco Inc. of Philadelphia.

HMS Host Corp. has committed $100 million to rebuild 17 service plazas. Sunoco will invest $70 million to redevelop 17 fueling facilities and convenience stores. Oakmont Service Plaza near Pittsburgh, which reopened May 23, 2007, was the first to be reconstructed under the partnership.

The PTC will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to mark the official opening of the plaza on May 14 at 11 a.m.
